About Me

Hi! My name is Katelyn Hebert and I am a senior at RIC. I am majoring in Youth Development and minoring in Sociology. Miraculously I am graduating from RIC within the four years! My adventure over these years has been life changing and full of wonderful memories. When I first came RIC I was a RadTech major and quickly realized that science classes weren't for me. I soon changed majors to Elementary Ed and after taking the Praxis three times I was unable to pass the reading portion. Therefore I switched my major to Youth Development and I couldn't be happier! I always new that I wanted to help people and work with children.

For the past two years I have mentored at HBS at RIC. Once a week I visit the child I am assigned to and we hang out during her lunch period. Its been a great experience and I am continuing to do this in my senior year.

This summer I did minimum time for AmeriCorps for a nonprofit called Connecting for Children and Families in Woonsocket.www.ccfcenter.org/  I worked at a summer camp for middle school students and it was an amazing experience.  I taught a class callled Generation On which allowed me as the teacher to be a facilitator and for the students to choose how they wanted to help the community through a service project. From working there all summer I was able to discover what I would like to do with my BA in Youth Development. In my career I can see myself becoming a site coordinator at a school who would be in charge of afterschool programs.

I also made amazing friends! Here are my fellow AmeriCorps members, teacher, and a junior councilor!
From a field trip to Save the Bay with Group C

Group A working on making dog/cat toys for the animal shelter!

Finished their work early, so they had a mini dance party!

At this same nonprofit that I worked for this summer, I will also be here as an intern for the school year. I will be able to be in all the schools in Woonsocket; ranging from their three elementary schools, to their middle school, and high school. I will also be doing administrative work at CCF.
